The Division of Palliative Care at MedStar Washington Hospital Center has a full-time position available for a board-certified or board-eligible Palliative Medicine physician. A member of MedStar Health, Washington Hospital Center is a bustling 926-bed tertiary care hospital in the heart of the District of Columbia, one of the country’s most progressive cities. Additionally, the hospital hosts the Washington Cancer Institute and MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute, the largest specialty practices of their kind in the area.
Along with three physicians, our rapidly growing program includes a nurse practitioner, social workers, clinical pharmacists, a chaplain, and starting this summer, we will welcome two fellows in our ACGME-accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program. Our mission is to provide expert interdisciplinary Palliative Care to Washington Hospital Center’s patients and their families, teach primary Palliative Care skills to our colleagues, and contribute to Palliative Care scholarship through our developing MedStar Health Palliative Research program.
We seek a compassionate clinician with sophisticated communication skills, expertise in symptom management, career interest in Palliative Care clinical practice and education, and comfort operating in an interdisciplinary framework. The perfect candidate will be passionate, driven, and curious as opportunities abound for exploration of personal interests in the field of Palliative Care. The successful applicant will join the Washington Hospital Center Department of Medicine faculty, serve as core faculty in our HPM fellowship program, and may apply for a faculty position at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient consultation, and supervision of students, residents and fellows. BC/BE in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and eligibility for active DC medical license are required. An active interest in scholarship and/or research is welcome. The ideal candidate will have completed fellowship training in palliative care, but in special circumstances, candidates who have extensive experience will be considered.
