Clinical Nurse Specialist - Duke University Health System - Perioperative Services

Duke University Health System seeks to hire a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Perioperative Services, who will embrace our mission of Transforming Lives Transforming Care.

Department Profile :

Duke University Hospital Perioperative Services is comprised of three surgical sites; Duke Hospital, which is a 24-hour, 7 day a week, Level 1 Trauma Center with 35 Operating Rooms connected to the Duke Medicine Pavilion (DMP) with 18 operating rooms. Additionally, we have an Ambulatory Surgery Center with 9 operating rooms and Eye Center with 6 operating rooms. We facilitate a streamlined approach to serving patients within the continuum of surgical care while maintaining high standards of excellence. By becoming part of the Duke Surgical Services team, you will have opportunities to participate in national and international research, education, and cutting edge technologies.

Duke North /DMP Surgical Services includes eight specialties offering new and exciting opportunities in both adult and pediatrics using the latest technological advancements including two intraoperative MRI suites and two intraoperative CT suites. Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center also incorporates a variety of services that provide outpatient procedures offering the latest technology for adult and pediatric patients. Our Eye Center operating rooms provide highly specialized surgery for all ophthalmology including; glaucoma/corneal transplant, cataracts, vitreo-retinal, Neuro-ophthalmology and pediatrics.

Job Summary:

Provide specialized patient care functions as a clinician, educator and/or a consultant for a specified patient population.

Work Performed

Coordinate with the nursing staff to identify patient care problems, to implement approaches to these problems and to evaluate the effectiveness of the approaches.

Perform clinical evaluations and make clinical judgments based on a synthesis of concepts, principles, models and theories to solve complex problems.

Serve as a consultant in a nursing specialty area for patients, nurses and other health team members throughout Duke University Medical Center and community agencies.

Participate in departmental and hospital committees and meetings to facilitate improvement of patient care and development of goals, philosophies and objectives for a specialized patient population.

Maintain liaison with faculty members of schools of nursing to arrange and facilitate clinical experience for nursing students; communicate with faculty members concerning students 'needs and progress.

Coordinate the development and implementation of an educational program designed to convey specialized know ledge and skills to nursing personnel.

Coordinate plans for the professional development of the nursing staff assigned to a specialty unit area and serve as a practitioner of specialized patient care.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Experience

3 years of nursing experience

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.

Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CCNS) is required.
