Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) Pediatric Palliative Care and Pain Management

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with experience in pediatric palliative care and pain management to join as a member of our growing multidisciplinary Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care Team at MSK Kids. In this role, the NP or PA will work collaboratively to meet the medical and psychosocial needs of our cancer patients, evaluate and implement standards of care, and participate in research necessary to establish exemplary, evidence-based care.

We Are:

The Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care Team at MSK Kids is currently composed of two physicians, two nurse practitioners, an office practice nurse, an office coordinator, and a clinic coordinator. The clinical providers have varying backgrounds in anesthesiology, neonatology, solid organ transplant, and palliative care. All providers on the team aim to alleviate physical symptoms, minimize distress, discuss goals of care, and perform advanced care planning for our patients. We are a consult service caring for patients referred to us by the pediatric oncology or surgery teams at MSK Kids, with patient ages ranging from newborn to young adults in their 20s and 30s.

The APP will join a team of over 800 NPs and PAs across MSK who are dedicated to delivering compassionate, expert and comprehensive cancer care to patients and families, supporting the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution and department.

You Are:

  • A team player, fostering a positive work environment
  • An excellent communicator who can elicit patients hopes, fears, concerns, and align with their goals
  • An experienced clinician comfortable with acute and chronic pain management and symptom management at end-of-life
  • A good decision-maker, making timely decisions while understanding the impact on others
  • Able to work effectively in an environment notable for complex, sometimes contradictory information
  • Adept at planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
  • Effective when discussing treatment recommendations with primary teams and providing supportive evidence
  • Flexible in your approach and demeanor in order to align with the shifting demands of evolving circumstances

You Will:

  • Provide comprehensive palliative care to meet the medical and psychosocial needs of our patients
  • Collaborate with fellow team members, oncologists, surgeons, integrative medicine providers, social workers, child life specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, case managers, and others
  • Learn about and then manage epidural catheter infusions for pain management
  • Educate medical residents, fellows, NPs, PAs, nurses, and students to augment their palliative care knowledge and skills
  • Participate in the implementation of patient education and clinical support programs

Qualifications needed:

  • Current New York State RN and NP licenses, or PA license and appropriate NP/PA board certification
  • 3+ years of related clinical experience required. At least one year of pediatric palliative care experience strongly preferred but will consider an FNP with adult palliative care experience

Shifts / Hours: Four flexed 10-hour day shifts, including weekend and holiday rotation
