The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at the Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital in Boardman Ohio is actively recruiting qualified candidates to begin fellowship training on July 1, 2021. The fellowship program recently received Initial Accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital is one of the 3 acute care hospitals in Mercy Health Youngstown. The hospital has 224 beds with a busy Emergency Department. Mercy Health provides hospice care to the tri-county area through Hospice of the Valley which includes a dedicated 16 bed in-patient facility, Hospice House. The Palliative Medicine team cares for patients in all 3 acute care facilities, in our outpatient clinics, and within the community.

Outline of curriculum

  • 4 months of in-patient Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • 1 month of Pain Management
  • 3 months with Hospice of the Valley/Hospice House
  • 1 month of Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • 1 month of Medical Oncology
  • 2 months of electives

Candidates meeting the following qualifications may apply:

  • Applicants must have successfully completed one of the following
    • An ACGME-accredited residency program
    • An AOA-approved residency program
    • A program with ACGME International (ACGME-I) Advanced Specialty Accreditation
    • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)-accredited or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)-accredited residency program 
    • AND
  • Applicants must have completed at least one of the following residency programs that meet the above accreditation standard in one of the following specialties:
    • Child Neurology
    • Family Medicine
    • Internal Medicine
    • Pediatrics
    • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
    • Neurology
    • Radiation Oncology
