Job Summary
This is a full-time professional position. The Grief Counselor provides bereavement counseling services to families and friends of Transitions Hospice patients, as assigned by the Manager of Bereavement Services. The Grief Counselor also provide short-term counseling services to adults, children, and families in the community who have experienced the death of a loved one. The Grief Counselor serves as a core member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) and provides expertise in grief-related concerns to the agency and the community. Administrative support needs are coordinated through the Manager of Bereavement Services. This position requires travel within the TL service area, professional networking in support of community outreach, and may require irregular hours. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm.
 
Responsibilities what you do
  • Assess bereavement needs of assigned referrals
  • Develop a Plan of Care in collaboration with each client/family, varying the plan for different family members as appropriate
  • Provide skilled grief-focused counseling to adults and/or children (5-18) and their families
  • Plan and facilitate support groups, workshops, and educational programs, including evening groups
  • Complete documentation accurately and in accordance with agency bereavement guidelines and regulatory standards
  • Conduct referral to other resources when indicated as outlined in guidelines and P&P’s
  • Participate in IDG meetings as assigned
  • Assist in planning and implementing Night of Remembrance, Camp Reflections, and other events
  • Consult/conference with other TL staff as needed to support clients at high risk for complicated grief, or as a resource for other grief-related concerns
  • Support grief education/training activities for staff, volunteers, partner facilities, and community groups
  • Provide information for assessment, grants, presentations, and community outreach in a timely manner
  • Complete peer chart reviews to assure compliance with agency and ACHC standards
  • Participate in orientation of new staff and volunteers
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements what you need
  • Master’s level degree and appropriate licensure obtained/maintained according to North Carolina laws (Counseling with LPC, Social Work with LCSW or Psychology with LPA
  • Clinical counseling experience, preferably in hospice
  • Strong clinical/interpersonal skills and sound professional judgment
  • Demonstrated awareness of the current body of knowledge of grief and loss
  • Established commitment to multicultural competencies
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Computer skills, including familiarity with EMRs
