About Huntsville Hospital Health System
Huntsville Hospital was established in 1895 and is a community-based, not-for-profit hospital located in Madison County, Alabama. It has always been volunteer-led and community owned. Its nine-member governing board, the Health Care Authority of the City of Huntsville, is appointed by the Huntsville City Council. Under the leadership of CEO David Spillers, Huntsville Hospital Health System has grown to include hospitals in Huntsville, Madison, Athens, Decatur, Sheffield, Moulton and Red Bay. It is now the second-largest hospital in Alabama, with an annual economic impact exceeding $1 billion with more than 1,800 patient beds and 14,000 employees spread across North Alabama. On average, all Madison County campuses admitted more than 62,190 patients and treated more than 163,600 emergency patients per year. Huntsville Hospital serves as the regional referral center for North Alabama and Southern Tennessee and is also a teaching facility for UAB’s Family Practice and Internal Medicine residency programs. It is also assisting to establish a nursing program at the Huntsville campus of Calhoun Community College. Huntsville Hospital is home to one of only three statewide Level I Tra...uma Centers. In 2018, U.S. News & World Report named Huntsville the #7 Best Place to Live in the country. Forbes has named Huntsville one of the Top 20 Leading Metros for Business and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has named Huntsville one of the country’s Top 10 Cities for Raising Families.
