The Coatesville VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for one full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to serve in the Urology Clinic. The Urology Nurse Practitioner will provide direct patient care to patients within delineated Scope of Practice. Duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the service, and as assigned. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Applicants must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. [NOTE: See exception in subparagraph (b) below for candidates who are enrolled in an MSN Bridge Program.] The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing located at 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, New York 10006 or call (800) 669-1656 extension 153. The NLNAC accredits all levels of nursing programs. Additional information may be obtained from the NLNAC web site; OR The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). The CCNE accredits bachelors and master's degree programs, and is located at One Dupont Circle N.W., Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036 or call (202) 463-6930. Additional information may be obtained from the CCNE web site. EXCEPTION (b): The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in an MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN but receive an MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a bachelor's degree is not awarded. EXCEPTION (c): In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Registration: Must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). GRADE DETERMINATIONS: In addition to the Basic Requirements, the following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists. On and after [March 17, 2009], registered nurses appointed or otherwise moving into these assignments must meet and maintain the following additional qualifications. This includes employees appointed before [March 17, 2009], who obtain such qualifications on or after [March 17, 2009]. Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.] PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 3-4 years of successful nursing practice Demonstrated leadership ability, communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to make sound, administrative, and independent judgments REFERENCE: VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical demands include repetitive body movements including the following: frequent reaching, standing, walking, and lifting of equipment and/or patients to provide patient care. This position requires extension of the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction including above or below shoulder level, during the provision of patient care, including retrieval of needed equipment, supplies and to make contact with the patient. This position requires the maintenance of an upright position to perform duties associated with patient care. This position is typically non-sedentary, and frequently involves being in the standing position. This position requires moving about accomplish tasks, such as assisting with patient ambulation and moving one patient area to the next. This position requires the raising of objects from a lower position to a higher position or the movement of objects horizontally position to position. Lifting may be done to move a patient from one location to the next, i.e.- from the exam table to the chair, and in the movement of equipment or supplies. NOTE: Applicants must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). BLS courses are normally offered within 1-5 days of entry on duty. No online certifications will be accepted. ["Coatesville VA Medical Center is a 42-building campus-style facility which sits on 128 acres and celebrated its 90th anniversary in November 2021. There are 302 inpatient and residential operating beds, and the medical center serves as a VA specialty referral facility for inpatient and residential mental health programs. In terms of inpatient beds, there are medical, psychiatry, and community living center (24- hour nursing care), including a highly regarded hospice unit. Duties and Responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner include: Delivers the best possible care to our Veteran patients in accordance with the full spectrum of patient care Provides Urology-related direct patient care in all functional areas of the Ambulatory Surgery Clinic, recovery area/clinic settings as needed Exercises corporate citizenship by serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested Provides and promotes high quality and effective care of patients Monitors and evaluates patient care through various quality management activities Coordinates care for patients in the Urology clinic to ensure that the care is timely, appropriate, of high quality and cost effective Provides professional assessment, coordination and planning of multiple health care services for both inpatient or outpatients with urological conditions Provides ongoing evaluations of care management services; works closely with the Urology attending physicians, fellows, Primary Care and other specialties Safely prescribes interventions and treatments which may include the prescriptions of medication Responsible and accountable for a broad range of health services which include, but are not limited to promotion of health, prevention of illness and disability, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions/diseases, and management of health care during the acute and chronic condition phases of illness Performs quality assurance support as assigned Ability to work on a flexible schedule when needed Responsible for the clinical management of health care to the veterans referred to the Urology service. This includes independent initial consultations in the clinic, emergency department or inpatient setting, complete evaluations, and devising/implementing therapeutic intervention. Has the authority to order all tests and procedures necessary to evaluate and treat these patients. Exercises sound clinical judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by Urology Chief or other Health care professionals Assists in the preoperative screening of patients as well as post-operative follow-up Staffs Urology Clinics at the main Coatesville site and its community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Delaware County and West Norriton Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm\nFinancial Disclosure Report: Not required\nRecruitment/Relocation Incentives: Not Authorized\nPermanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized"]
