Description

Our Chaplaincy staff is trained to minister in this challenging environment, and has proven to be knowledgeable about the developmental and spiritual issues unique to children. Working as part of the pediatric healthcare team, our chaplains share the task of bringing wholeness and health to patients and families. Chaplains assess how patients and families use religion/spirituality for meaning-making, coping, and medical decision-making, and provide this information to the interdisciplinary care team for integration into the plan of care. Chaplains also provide religious/spiritual and emotional support to staff. Bereavement Coordinators provide assessments and direct care to families whose children (or loved ones in the case of adult patients) have died; they also provide bereavement support to staff.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

???Compliance - Patient Services Staff
Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.

???Provide Bereavement Services
Provides bereavement services to patients, families and staff of assigned unit. Actively participates as a member of the Care Team for StarShine Hospice, The Fetal Care Center of Cincinnati, the Palliative Care Team, or hospital unit as the bereavement coordinator. Support the staff on assigned units by providing staff support when a death has occurred or other types of support and referral information.

???Assessment and Intervention
Assists interdisciplinary team with identification of high-risk bereavement situations and provides assessment and intervention where needed. Provides bereavement follow-up and referral services for families of patients served and implements a service plan for high risk bereaved families.

???Provide Education Programs
Provides educational programs both for the CCHMC community and the larger community. Works closely with the Bereavement Manager to assess staff and community needs related to bereavement education and assist with the planning and implementation of educational programs and provides unit specific bereavement education as requested or needed.

???Department Resource
Supports staff led projects, including the work of the EOLC Committee, and other related committees and task forces. Actively participates on the EOLC Committee. Shares knowledge and expertise by participating on committees within the Pastoral Care Department or assigned units.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:
???Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Divinity or related discipline
???Licensed in the State of Ohio, if applicable
???5 years experience in the field of bereavement in a hospital, hospice, or related setting

Preferred:
???Experience with pediatric and perinatal death
???Experience with palliative care
???Certification through a recognized bereavement organization
