Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Palliative Medicine Physician in the Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Palliative Medicine. The Palliative Medicine Section is seeking motivated candidates, with a focus on chronic pain management, to serve as a clinician-educator at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Palliative Medicine is a multidisciplinary team that involves Social Workers, Advanced Practice Providers, Nurses and Medical Assistants. The Palliative team works closely with Supportive Oncology with access to substance intervention services and psychiatry. This position brings excellent opportunity to develop teaching skills for both graduate and undergraduate clinical skills through extensive involvement in multiple educational programs.

The team currently covers three main areas: consult service, outpatient clinic and outpatient oncology patients. The opportunity is ideal for the palliative medicine physician who is interested in an urban academic teaching hospital and working within a robust and rapidly growing interdisciplinary palliative medicine team. This position includes patient care, education and scholarly productivity. Additional highlights include:

  • Join a well-established academic Palliative Medicine section, established in 2010
  • Maintain a strong focus on interdisciplinary education with learners from several fellowships and required rotation for medical residents
  • Interface with a diverse patient population (socioeconomic, cultural, and disease processes)
  • Serve as a core clinical faculty member for a strong ACGME-accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship in a joint venture with neighboring Cook County Hospital
  • Partner with an onsite inpatient hospice unit
  • Participate in opportunities in workforce development, workforce resiliency research, academic research and quality improvement
  • Provide mentorship and continuing education within the Schools of Medicine and Nursing at Rush University Medical Center

Candidates must be board eligible/board certified certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Candidates with a strong interest in presenting and publishing at the regional and national level are encouraged to apply. The position offers competitive salary, comprehensive benefits and an academic appointment commensurate with experience.
