This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Leadership experience preferred Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted. ["We are looking for a skilled Associate Chief of Radiology is accountable to the Chief of Radiology. The incumbent will assist the Chief of Radiology with planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the patient care, education and research activities of the health care of the service to include the medical center, clinics, and community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC's) under Central Virginia VA Healthcare System. The Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, located in Richmond, Virginia, is a level 1a 349-bed facility offering primary, secondary, and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, intermediate care, acute and sustaining spinal cord injury, skilled nursing home care, and palliative care. The medical center has four community-based outpatient clinics located in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Emporia and Spotsylvania County, Virginia, and a strong and mutually beneficial affiliation with the Medical College of Virginia. Residency programs exist in virtually all general and specialty areas of medicine, rehabilitation, surgery, psychiatry, and dentistry. The medical center has an active cardiac transplantation program. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): The position is eligible for EDRP. Program goals and objectives are provided to the incumbent. The employee is responsible for planning and carrying out their assignment, resolving most of the conflicts that arise during the execution of their assigned duties, coordinating their work with others as necessary and interpreting policy on their own initiative in terms of established objectives. The responsibility of the Associate Chief includes but is not limited to: Provide input or supervision as needed on any operation or activity within the service including clinical care, employee and attending scheduling. Assist in promoting the development of health care professionals through counseling, mentoring, teaching, and encouraging self-assessment, while monitoring, and promoting con1pliance with appropriate regulations, professional standards, and ethical conduct. Ensure that the facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the facility, VHA and VA as well as take an active participatory role as a leadership team member, providing counsel in defining and accomplishing the health system's mission and goals. Ensure the quality of certified licensed professional staff being recruited and hired through a credentialing and privileging process that meets VHA and Joint Commission requirements. Ensure that all service employees assigned to Radiology are in compliance with VA regulations pertaining to internal and external professional activities as well as conflict of interest considerations. Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to review, analyze, and evaluate patient care activities and that corrective actions are initiated and carried out as needed. Monitor and ensure medical staff compliance with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, medical center policies, pertinent Joint Commission standards, and other appropriate regulations as they apply. Create an environment of system-oriented continuous quality improvement, within which programs and quality of care effectiveness are evaluated. Ensure that clinical, education, and research programs that complement the primary mission of patient care are established, maintained, and reviewed regularly. Establishes and maintains effective and harmonious relationships with VSO, local communities, civic, professional and other related organizations. Maintain active participation and affiliation with medical and allied health schools as part of the education and training mission of VHA. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; Require to be on-call after hours, including weekends and holidays"]
