RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is Seeking a Director of Pediatric Palliative Care in New Brunswick, NJ

The Department of Pediatrics at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School seeks a dynamic, career-oriented physician to join the faculty of the Division of Pediatric Palliative Care. Candidates who have successfully completed a fellowship and are board certified/board eligible in Pediatrics and Palliative Care will be considered. The medical director of pediatric palliative care services will lead the development, implementation and ongoing programmatic needs of an interdisciplinary team, to provide palliative care services to pediatric patients and their families.  Outpatient services will be housed in the Pediatric Clinics at the Child Health Institute and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Inpatient consultations and services will be provided in the Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. In this role, the medical director will build critical bridges and relationships with providers to promote collaboration and understanding of the importance and complimentary values of palliative care services. Moreover, the physician will have the opportunity to further engage in scholarly and outreach activities.

The Department of Pediatrics is composed of 124 full-time and more than 200 volunteer faculty members, organized into 18 divisions covering all of the pediatric subspecialties in conjunction with four key surgical services. The department is undergoing a renaissance following the integration of the medical school with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and the recent merger of two major health systems to form RWJ Barnabas. The outpatient services are located in the Rutgers Child Health Institute of NJ, a state of the art facility that includes a Pediatric CRC, Pediatric subspecialty offices, and a modern research facility. Our New Brunswick–based clinical programs have achieved Accredited Status for Ambulatory Health Care by the Joint Commission, one of only a small number of academic ambulatory practices with this status.  The inpatient clinical services of the division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition are conducted at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital (BMSCH) of the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. This is a 105-bed acute care hospital for children with a dedicated endoscopy suite located on the only pediatric academic health campus in the state of New Jersey. The BMSCH is ranked as one of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. Adjacent to the RWJ Barnabas Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s hospital is the PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital, which is one of the country’s largest inpatient acute rehabilitation facilities for children.  Across the street is the Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ – the only NCI designated center in the state of New Jersey.
