Due to departmental growth and expansion of primary care services, TCOM Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics seeks an individual with an outstanding record of developing academic and clinical programs, championing high quality graduate medical education programs, prioritizing medical student education, and mentoring as its Professor and Chair in the Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. As the supervisor and academic and administrative leader of the department, the Chair will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department, for long-term strategic development of the department, and for the judicious use of all resources allocated to the department.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chair derives responsibility and authority from the Dean, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Chair is responsible for: (1) reporting academic progress of the department; (2) evaluating the needs of the department and reporting these to the Dean of Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine; (3) assuring that the programs within the department are commensurate with the overall Strategic Plan of the institution. In the development and implementation of academic and clinical programs within the institution, the Chair also works closely with the chairs of other academic departments and the leadership of HSC Health.

Required Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate for the position of Department Chair, Internal Medicine and Geriatrics shall have proven experience in teaching and academic leadership in a medical education setting.
  • For clinical department chairs, the successful Chair must have an active medical license and active board certification in the discipline in which they serve as chair.
  • D.O., M.D. degree or equivalent. Clinically experienced and board certified or board eligible in their specialty.
  • Unrestricted credentials within UNTHSC-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and be licensed or eligible to practice medicine by the state of Texas.
