Discover Your Career at Emory University

Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.

Description

The Pediatric Institute of Emory University and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking an outstanding Pediatric Allergist-Immunologist physician to join the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy/Immunology, Cystic Fibrosis, and Sleep (PACS) as a clinician educator. The focus for this position will be teaching and clinical service in both pediatric allergy and immunology. Candidates will have the opportunity to join a busy and diverse allergy/immunology clinical service with outstanding faculty. The pediatric Allergy/Immunology clinical care team manages routine allergy problems, severe asthma, more complex cases involving multiple food allergies in the setting of atopic dermatitis and/or eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, as well as patients with a variety of immunological disorders. The clinical Allergy/Immunology program also includes multidisciplinary clinics in Severe Asthma in collaboration with Pediatric Pulmonology; 22Q deletion in collaboration with Endocrinology, Genetics, Gastroenterology and Otolaryngology; and soon will be serving patients with Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders in collaboration with Gastroenterology. In addition, this faculty will collaborate with colleagues in hematology/oncology, transplant, hospital medicine, and laboratory medicine in the management of immunological conditions. The person filling this position will function as both an inpatient and outpatient consultant in conducting comprehensive assessments of children with allergy and immunology system disorders; synthesize a plan of care based on the needs of the child and family; and collaborate with other care providers in order to make care plans successful. Finally, we have committed to enhancing food allergy care and research under the leadership of Dr. Brian Vickery by establishing the Emory + Children's Food Allergy Center in 2018. Our site is a Clinical Research Center of Distinction within the FARE Clinical Network and aims for continued growth as a regional and national leader in food allergy in the coming years. Thus, we are now recruiting a full-time, board-certified (or eligible) allergist/immunologist at the Assistant or the Associate Professor level to join the PACS division as an Allergy/Immunology clinician educator. Expertise in pediatric immunologic disorders is a key requirement for this position as it is expected that the successful candidate will hold both allergy and immunology clinics.

Emory's Department of Pediatrics has a nationally recognized pediatric residency training program and PACS has fellowship programs in Allergy/Immunology, Pulmonology, and Sleep. We are committed to advancing the careers of our fellows and other learners at all stages through teaching and mentorship activities that include bedside teaching as well as oversight of research and quality improvement projects. The person filling this position will have a very active role both in clinic and the inpatient Allergy/Immunology service as an educator for medical students, residents, and fellows.

The environment aligns institutional strengths to ensure academic and clinical productivity. Children's is the largest pediatric healthcare system in Georgia and one of the largest in the country, serving nearly 350,000 unique patients each year with 532 licensed beds. The Allergy/Immunology clinic, the Food Allergy Center, and the other PACS clinics are all housed within the Center for Advanced Pediatrics, a state-of-the-art 260,000 square foot outpatient clinic facility that brings together over 20 pediatric specialties, clinics, and programs under one roof aiming to provide a better way to treat children and teens with chronic diseases and complex care needs. In addition to being recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top pediatric hospital, Children's has been listed as one of Fortune magazine's 100 best places to work for 9 consecutive years. The Emory University School of Medicine is ranked among the nation's finest institutions for education, biomedical research, and patient care, and the Department of Pediatrics was ranked #1 in the U.S. in NIH research funding for pediatric departments in 2020. Both Children's and Emory support the ongoing professional and leadership development of physicians while maintaining a healthy balance between academics and clinical work and rewarding excellence and productivity in both. Research and teaching activities are supported and cultivated through strong relationships and affiliations.

Atlanta is a diverse, dynamic, and growing metropolitan area that offers an excellent quality of life, outstanding schools, world-class dining and entertainment, and easy access to a wide range of outdoor recreational activities.

Board certification in Pediatrics preferred though Internal Medicine certification is acceptable. Candidates should be currently board-certified or board-eligible in Allergy/Immunology. Rank and competitive salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits are provided.

Interested candidates, please forward letters of inquiry and curriculum vitae to Brian Vickery, MD, Director of the Emory + Children's Food Allergy Center at bpvicke@emory.edu

Employment will be in the Emory + Children's Pediatric Institute. The Emory + Children's Pediatric Institute is an affiliation between Emory University and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta that is improving the lives of children in Georgia and beyond. The Pediatric Institute combines the unique strengths and resources of each institution in support of our three-part academic missions of providing outstanding clinical care, conducting innovative basic science discovery and clinical research, and coordinating exceptional education of the future healthcare workforce. Our physicians, researchers, and educators have created a model where leadership, commitment and quality are fundamental components of success. Together, we are transforming pediatrics by achieving new levels of clinical excellence--driven by research, teaching and wellness. We look forward to our future together.
