Job Summary

Assists in the examination and treatment of patients and performs miscellaneous delegated duties under the direction of the physician and/or clinician. Responsible for various clinical and clerical duties.

Job Specific Duties

• Assists with front desk coverage and contacts parents to explain procedures (EEG, Sleep Lab) and confirm appointments. Confirms multidisciplinary clinic appointments.
• Communicates all significant changes (ex. seizure) in patient conditions or behavior to ARNP and physicians.  
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area and patient rooms utilizing gloves, masks, and appropriate equipment; follows infection control protocols during clinic in disinfecting/preparing patient room before each use. 
• Maintains equipment in proper working condition/order. When equipment is not functioning, takes proper actions - labels machines, notifies clinician and places maintenance work order for patient safety. 
• Performs and documents vital signs (i.e., temperature, B/P, Resp., etc.) and measurements (i.e., height, weight, head circumference etc.). 
• Performs intake and documents any allergies, medication, and current presentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).  
• Documents, within the scope of practice, all electronic medical record (EMR) meaningful use required fields in an effort to optimize utilization.  
• Conducts the Environment of Care rounds as assigned to ensure that clinical area meets inspection requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies/bodies. 
• Performs other clerical duties such as obtaining referrals, copying, scanning, filing, faxing and working on special projects as assigned by clinic coordinators and/or manager/director. 

Minimum Job Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or Medical Assistant certification
• American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High School education or equivalent preferred.
• 1 year experience as a medical assistant preferred.
• Bilingual - English and Spanish preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computer and math skills.
• Accuracy with calculating percentages for conversion.
• Excellent patient management, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
