Internal Number: 70056946 The Palliative Care Nurse shall maintain a high standard of nursing care. Under the primary supervision of the Palliative Care Coordinator, will develop skills in and share responsibility in assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating the holistic care of the patient and their family. The nurse shall, after a period of orientation, carry out care independently, develop expertise in symptom control, develop a high standard of professional and ethical responsibility and acquire teaching skills. The nurse shall work as part of a multi-professional team, reporting to the palliative care coordinator and palliative care medical director. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nursing. BSN preferred. CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current New Mexico RN license or current Compact state license. BLS certification required. ELNEC training, or equivalent, preferred. Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care required within 1 year of hire if currently not certified. SKILLS: The nurse must have an understanding of the Mission and Core Values of CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. Current knowledge and skills appropriate to age/type of patient population served. Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients' rights in the delivery of care. Communicates in a clear and concise manner appropriate to the developmental age of patient. EXPERIENCE: 5 years' nursing experience of which two years must have been in hospice or palliative care. NATURE OF SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Palliative Care Coordinator, Palliative Care Medical Director, and VP of Mission ENVIRONMENT: -Bloodborne pathogen: B Exposure to infectious diseases and x-rays. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to handle emergency/crisis situations, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing and walking. Works in a clean, well lighted, ventilated smoke-free environment. Subject to stressful professional relationships. Working hours are varied, with flexibility due to unexpected changes in schedule and emergencies.
