Thank you for your interest in the Pain Medicine Fellowship Training Program at Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center, a member of the HCA Healthcare Graduate Medical Education family, and VA Southern Nevada Health Care System.

HCA Graduate Medical Education is proud to be the first Pain Medicine fellowship training program in the history of Nevada!

This is an ACGME-accredited 1-year program sponsored by the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program  through HCA Healthcare/Sunrise Health Care Program. We recruit 2 fellows per year.

The fellows will be fully supported by the faculty and the excellent multidisciplinary team of pain physicians, pain-pharmacists, spine surgeons, osteopaths, chiropractors, and acupuncturists at Southern Hills Hospital and VA Southern Nevada.  The trainees will be more than well prepared to face the challenges of professional life, whether they choose to practice in academia or a private practice setting.

Our faculty are experienced pain medicine physicians who are passionate about medical education and adept in using data driven methods to diagnose and treat the wide spectrum of painful conditions.  They are diverse in their ethnic backgrounds and life experiences, having trained in highly rated programs, and are committed to investing in forging the next generation of pain management experts that care for a vibrant, diverse, and undeserved population.

With chronic pain becoming an increasingly recognized factor in public health, the need to train excellent pain management physicians is more important than ever.  The learning experience at SNHD/VA will include close mentoring with experts in the field of pain management with increasing responsibility and independence as the fellows progress.

In alignment with its overarching mission, “we are committed to the care and improvement of human life,” the HCA Healthcare Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education, Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center, Pain Medicine Fellowship Program is committed to training fellows who are devoted to providing high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care to patients, their families, and our communities in dire need.

Curriculum & Rotation Schedule

Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center: Caring for adult and pediatric patients with acute/chronic pain and cancer pain in the inpatient and ambulatory settings, including palliative care, neurology, psychiatry, addiction medicine, radiology, and spine surgery.

VA Southern Nevada Health Care System: Caring for adult patients with acute/chronic pain and cancer pain in the inpatient and ambulatory settings, including continuity clinic, interventional pain management, integrative pain management, and palliative care.

Fabito Anesthesia & Pain Specialist: Caring for adult and pediatric patients with acute and chronic pain in the ambulatory setting, including interventional pain management, practice management, and integrative pain management

Radiology

Neurology (headaches)

Anesthesia (airway management, sedation, IV skills) *

PM&R- including electrodiagnostic medicine *

Pediatric Pain Management

Complementary Pain Management (chiropractic, acupuncture)

*As needed depending on fellow’s primary specialty

• Salary

PGY5 - Annual Salary $67,330

$1,000.00 stipend for Orientation

$950.00 stipend for on call meals, in addition to meals provided in hospital

Eligibility Requirements

• US Citizens or individuals with permanent resident status (green card).
• Successful completion of an ACGME or AOA Residency
• Eligible for Nevada licensure
