Job Summary

Responsible for overall management and administration of the organization with emphasis on the highest quality patient care and patient support services.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications:

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree

  • Minimum Experience: Five years of supervisory or management knowledge and experience and ability to effectively administer the Hospice, In Home Palliative Care, and Hospice House services.

  • Preferred Licensure or other certifications: Hospice Administrators certificate

  • Preferred Educational Requirements: Masters degree in nursing, social work, health service administration, or related field.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Sense of humor and empathy with ability to mentor, lead and develop staff. Proficient with computers and software applications.

  • Excellent critical thinking and decision making skills. Flexible and adaptable in rapidly changing situations.

  • Understanding of state and federal hospice & palliative regulations.

  • Excellent skills in organization and attention to detail. Action and goal oriented. Self-directed.

  • Ability to analyze and correlate clinical care with financial and regulatory requirements and accreditation standards and to propose and implement processes to ensure compliance with same.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

Responsible for administration and direction of Hospice, In Home Palliative Care, and the Hospice House (Programs).

  • Provides the vision to react positively to future challenges and opportunities and incorporate these activities into day-to-day management and supervision of the Programs.

  • Develops and executes all directives and policies and procedures accomplishing identified outcomes as initiated and/or approved by Board of Trustees.

  • Directs staff in performance of their duties, including admission, discharge, transfer, revocation and provision of service to patients.

  • Ensures that interdisciplinary care is provided and structure systems to promote quality care.

  • Determines staffing needs and staffing patterns of qualified staff according to program requirements and with consideration for utilization of personnel at their maximum potential.

  • Participates in recruitment, employment, and retention of staff and assume final responsibility for staff hires and terminations.

  • Completes performance evaluations on direct reports and other subordinates as needed, in accordance with organizational policy and measurable outcomes.

  • Ensures adequate orientation, continuing education, in-servicing, and completion of skill competencies of staff.

  • Fosters appropriate continuing education and training for key staff members through participation in appropriate professional associations and activities.

  • Assumes a leadership role in the development of relationships and coordination of services with hospitals, nursing homes, and other service agencies, as appropriate.

  • Acts as primary liaison between Programs and Board of Trustees about current organizational, community, and industry trends.

  • Acts as primary liaison between Programs and the NGHS Foundation about current organizational, community, and industry needs.

Responsible for regulatory compliance and enforcement of Programs performance improvement.

  • Ensures staff and the Programs stay compliant with current federal, state, and local laws, legal and accreditation requirements.

  • Ensures staff stay current with clinical information and practices.

  • Directs and monitors the Programs performance improvement activities and service utilization to ensure delivery of comprehensive care.

  • Ensures appropriate data collection and regular and complete reports are reviewed by applicable Hospice staff and as required by Board of Trustees.

  • Ensures services provided by other agencies are authorized by Programs.

  • Establishes and maintains effective channels of communication including integration of technology, as applicable.

  • Ensures supportive services are available to staff.

  • Adheres to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff, and the organization.

Responsible for fiscal oversight of the Hospice.

  • Monitors business operations on a regular basis to ensure financial stability.

  • Monitors operational progress toward accomplishing operational and strategic goals through managing program in accordance with established fiscal parameters.

  • Ensures operational planning and prepares and submits for approval an annual operating budgets.

Responsible for development and implementation of best practices in Hospice.

  • Ensures actionable objectives are derived from evaluation of Hospice services and staff.

  • Ensures the accuracy of public information materials.

  • Assumes key role in funding development.

  • Participates in conflict and complaint management and ensure resolution(s).

  • Ensures standards of ethical business and clinical practice.

  • Ensures adequate space, equipment, and supplies are available.

  • Rotates into administrative on-call as scheduled.

  • Performs other duties as necessary and/or assignments.
