Outstanding Opportunity for Chief of Palliative Care at Prestigious Children’s Hospital in Miami
Nicklaus Children's Hospital, a 307-bed freestanding children's hospital and ACS-verified Level I trauma center, and Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children's Health System, are seeking an exceptional candidate to lead the Section of Palliative Care. The ideal applicant should be board certified in palliative care and have significant clinical experience post-fellowship. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate evidence of progressive management responsibilities and leadership in an academic or educational environment.
The section chief will be responsible for setting the strategy for the Section of Palliative Care/Pediatric Advanced Care Team in collaboration with NCPS and NCHS leadership. The role oversees all clinical care, quality metrics, teaching and research, with additional responsibilities including: provide medical leadership, oversight of clinical and operational activities, lead the quality work of the clinical program and promote professionalism and a culture of accountability. The Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital specializes in providing comfort and support for children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses and their families. PACT members serve as an extension to inpatient clinical teams, with the goal of enhancing quality of life by providing the child relief from symptoms of serious illness, while also promoting stress reduction for the entire family. The team includes palliative care physicians, nurse practitioners, child life specialists, music therapists, social workers and spiritual leaders. Job Summary
Provide operational leadership for all Pediatric Palliative care services. Ensures clinical leadership and expertise within the palliative care clinical team. Proactively identify opportunities to improve the patient and family experience of care, efficiency, and effectiveness of resource use. Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements- Doctor of Medicine Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy
- MD - Current state medical license and in good standing with medical board
- 3 years clinical experience beyond board certification and 1 year of administrative experience
- 1 year of experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Board certified, eligible in Hospice/Palliative Medicine, or equivalent experience
- Management and leadership experience
Job Specific Duties
- Oversight of the hiring and works with care clinical team members in conjunction with Nursing and NCPS.
- Participation and clinical leadership in the development and review of appropriate hospital and clinical protocols.
- Leadership of regular team meetings for the operational and administrative functions of program.
- Development and oversight of metrics to demonstrate program impact.
- Oversight of program budget, review of performance measures, and use of staff resources proportional to activity and patient care.
- Regular review of financial and operational impact of program on the hospital and production of summaries for leadership review.
- Leadership in the identification of education needs for hospital staff and development of effective educational strategies.
- Outreach to and education for community agencies and health care settings as appropriate.
- Oversight for implementation of clinical protocols, utilization review, case management, quality assurance, and compliance programs according to hospital policies.
- Ensures compliance with JCAHO/DNV and other regulatory standards.
- Participation in quality assurance and peer review programs including compliance with and implementation of any resulting recommendations.
- Spokesperson for the program internally and externally.
- Participation in research, education, advocacy, and clinical initiatives to advance the field of patient care.
- Works with hospital leadership to enhance the community outreach to physicians, the public, healthcare facilities, and other applicable organizations in the community.
- Serves as program director for fellowship training, if applicable.
- Works with Public Relations to develop and update program marketing materials.
- Works with the SVP Foundation to secure philanthropic support.
