JOB SUMMARY

Dir Pastoral Care and Education is responsible developing, organizing, and coordinating pastoral care and chaplain services for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). Develops and implements programs and services designed to meet religious, spiritual, and interfaith needs of BSWH patients, families, employees, and visitors. Develops system-wide policies, procedures, and guidelines for the BSWH pastoral programs in alignment with BSWH mission and ministry strategic objectives. Directs and delivers chaplain services in BSWH health care facilities, which includes visiting, listening, counseling, and providing emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and employees in the event of illness, loss, death, or other life-changing events. Facilitates, develops, and provides specialized patient counseling and spiritual guidance in the areas of grief support, end-of-life planning, advanced directives, and hospice care. Collaborates and coordinates with physicians, clinical staff, and social workers in the delivery of pastoral services with other patient care services. May direct or manage educational programs including supervision of pastoral resident programs if appropriate. May also direct or lead special ministry programs, initiatives, or activities that provide service and meet the religious and spiritual needs of the patients, communities, and populations served by BSWH.

A region Director translates and implements strategic plans and objectives for area of responsibility. Makes final decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives. Recommends policies and organizational changes for area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual objectives. Erroneous decisions at this level tend to have negative impact on the success of the area, business unit, and possibly the overall organization's operations. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs of the unit. Leads and advises subordinate(s) to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

1.Directs pastoral care and education for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
2.Implements and recommends strategic and operational plans and priorities for pastoral care services aligned with BSWH overall business objectives.
3.Lead development and implementation of pastoral care procedural guidelines and long-range plans and implementation of new programs across System.
4.Represents the Department of pastoral care administratively and clearly communicates department staff input on planning and other decision-making issues.
5.Directs the effective management of financial, informational, and personnel resources to ensure efficient operations and continuity of care.
6.Leads the development and implementation of pastoral care and education policies, procedures, and guidelines, to ensure quality and consistency of pastoral care across BSWH.
7.Prepares and delivers interfaith worship services, when scheduled, that meet the spiritual needs of a diverse group of patients, families, and staff within the BSWH community.
8.Directs the clinical pastoral education (CPE) programs, adjunct faculty, and the program coordinator to ensure program structures comply with standards.
9.Collaborates with the admissions committee of the CPE program to review the qualifications of candidates for the program and select qualified new students.
10.Directs the delivery of the educational learning program to students participating in the CPE Program to ensure students successfully attain certifications as appropriate.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

1.Bachelor's degree in divinity, theology, or related field preferred. Master's degree preferred.
2.3+ years of experience as a clinical chaplain, pastoral education, or related area.
3.Experience in a leadership role preferred.
4.Ordination and/or ecclesiastical endorsement for chaplaincy.
5.Designation as a Certified Supervisor from the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) required.
6.Member of the Association of Professional Chaplains and/or the National Association of Catholic Chaplains preferred.
7.Experience in the areas of listening ministry, grief work, and ethical decision making.
8.Strong knowledge of current trends and best practices in clinical pastoral education (CPE) and chaplaincy.
9.In good standing with denomination, endorsement.
10.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • EDUCATION - Masters'
  • EXPERIENCE - 5 Years of Experience
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - ACPE Certified Educator (ACPE-CPE): Must have ACPE Certified Educator (formerly named Supervisor Certification also accepted).
