Mary Power
How will clients benefit with you as their coach?

In my coaching I provide a catalyst for clients to arrive at insights, solutions, and behaviors that they may not have achieved on their own. I assist in expanding strengths, enhancing skill sets and uncovering thought processes or behaviors that do not serve them well in their current role. I help them become aware of their blind spots and offer a safe space to observe, reflect and develop positive responses so they can reach even higher levels of effectiveness.

What do clients say about working with you?

Clients generally are most appreciative of my positive focus and ability to support them while holding them accountable for results and my commitment to their individual success. Here are a few examples:

"Mary never fails to inspire and seek innovative, creative solutions to the thorniest issues. Her energy and ability to connect with people in a meaningful way is part of her magic. She has inspired me personally to reach for new levels of professionalism and leadership. She understands the fundamental need for an individual to feel empowered and focused in order to make a difference. Mary finds the untapped potential that resides in each of us and seeks to make it come alive."
Denise Roosendaal, Executive Director, Institute for Credentialing Excellence
"Mary is an energetic and dynamic leader who takes the time to understand her clients' unique challenges and finds creative and caring ways to help them learn, grow and evolve. I walked away with tangible steps I can implement and a notebook full of Mary's wisdom that I turn to regularly. Given her many years of leading teams, I appreciated Mary's guidance and her perspective. She was both cheerleader and coach – setting weekly goals and always taking time to celebrate my successes. I'd highly recommend Mary as a coach and am grateful for her guidance".
Tracy Talbot, previously SVP Solutions, McKinley Advisors
"Mary has helped me bridge the transition from senior leadership to CEO. She has helped provide guidance on how to approach the unique issues that I needed expert outside perspective on to enable my success. Her pointers and expertise having sat in my role were invaluable."
Kristie Weinshel, CEO Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America
"I found my coaching work with Mary incredibly beneficial. As a new CEO, I do not think I could have reached the level of success I did in my first year without her support, her questions, and her ability to help me frame critical issues."
Michael White, CEO, Kansas Contractors Association
"In my opinion, the most important quality in a coach is the ability to listen, ask key questions, positively challenge, and summarize, and Mary has all of those skills in spades! Plus, she makes the process fun, too. I value her insights, her thoughtful questions and her ability to bring out the best in me and my organization."
Kate Penn, CEO, Society of American Florists
What is your coaching philosophy?

I believe that effective coaching is assisting leaders in becoming more capable, more focused, and more confident in their roles as they navigate change and manage the challenges and concerns of today's fast paced environment.

Coaching is a partnership that provides process, accountability, and support to help my clients achieve their unique success goals. I believe that an investment in coaching is an investment in your best self.

What types of clients do you work with?

I am proud to work with Association CEOs and Executives, and I have invested a great deal of time working with first time CEO's and early career CEO's.

In addition, I work with:

  • Aspiring Leaders
  • Corporate Leaders and Entrepreneurs
  • Executive/Leadership Teams and Boards
  • Developing Professionals and Young Leaders
  • Professionals seeking change in career
What is your professional background?

I am fortunate to have over 20 years extensive experience serving on several non-profit broads and have led three very diverse international associations as CEO. This provides me with a deep understanding of the needs and expectations of members, volunteers, boards, and staff and allows me to successfully partner with both seasoned leaders and those advancing in their careers.

I am an International Coaching Federation (ICF) certified coach and received my training at Georgetown University's Institute for Transformational Leadership. I continue to invest in training and hold several certifications for conflict behaviors and key assessments.

Currently I sit on the Northern Virginia Community College Foundation Board, and I am an advisor to two social entrepreneur start-ups. I serve as a DELP mentor through ASAE. I have been recognized for my contribution to both the association and meetings industry by being selected as an ASAE Fellow and received their Women Who Advance Excellence in Associations Award. I was selected by Meeting News magazine as one of the 25 most influential people in the meetings industry for six consecutive years and was inducted into Michigan State University's Hotel School's Hall of Leaders.
